This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember what it was like the first time you read a book that you couldn't put down? My students have not yet discovered books that capture their imaginations, but with your help they can and will!
Simply put my students are amazing young children who are quickly evolving into amazing young adults.
Every single day many, if not all, of my students wake up facing extreme poverty and go to sleep dreaming about how they are going to change the world.
My Project
I am trying to give my students the classroom library they need and deserve. In order for my students to one day be mountain movers and policy makers they must keep developing their literacy skills by reading challenging texts. These books will not only change my students lives but they could potentially change yours as well!
In closing, I will leave you with the profound words that one of my students wrote in her journal Friday: "When I learned that some students couldn't read in third grade, I was shocked.
I love to read and was reading the Harry Potter series in second and third grade. I am lucky to have had all fine teachers, but I think that every child deserves that chance. Children will be the future..."
