FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Fuller's classroom raised $730

I am a new Chicago Public School teacher, and part of the Chicago Teaching Fellows (an alternative certification program designed to put highly effective teachers into lower-performing schools throughout the city of Chicago). I have started my first year of teaching in a second grade class and find that my students lack access to high quality literature and reading materials. Many of my students are struggling readers and are often discouraged to try harder to improve their literacy skills. If my students had access to a classroom library that contained books of interest at the appropriate levels for the diverse range of readers in the room, I am certain that their motivation to learn and work hard to improve their reading skills would increase. I currently have only the few books that my school was able to provide along with books that I was able to purchase with the limited funds that new teachers receive. I know with the proper motivation and resources I could help my students improve their literacy skills and ensure their overall academic success for years to come.
Many of my students are from challenged backgrounds and have not had the opportunities that other students have. Only through education will they have a chance to succeed in life and it is my goal to help provide as nurturing, educationally stimulating and challenging environment as possible. With a more diverse classroom library I know that this will be possible.
