My Students
The children I teach are all extremely bright students in Dallas ISD. I teach 7th and 8th grade Pre-AP students, many of whom are gifted and talented. Although many of them come from low income families, they thrive in the classroom and have set high expectations for themselves; they strive to rise to those expectations and never fail to set the bar higher. A lot of them love reading, and the rest of them...well, I’m hoping to instill a love of reading in them by putting good books in their hands.
My Project
My 7th and 8th graders LOVE reading, but as a result, some of the best-loved books sometimes find “forever homes” or are loved so well that they show a little wear over the years.
I would love to be able to add to my class library by giving my students over 80 new books, many of them titles that I have had on my wishlist for the past few years but have simply not been able to purchase myself with limited funds.
A lot of the books are newer titles that appeal to what the kids are interested in reading today, including books by authors like Kwame Alexander, Jon Shieszka, Jason Reynolds, Cassandra Clare, and more.
