I have thirteen unique individuals in my high school classroom along with two assistants. My class is a self contained, multi-needs room with varying disabilities such as Developmental Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, Autism, Downs Syndrome, Behavior and Emotional Disorders, Communication Disorders, etc. Our school is in a low-income, poverty-stricken area where funding is not always available.
My students have many special needs and require a lot of attention.
They require materials to be hands-on with many different types of manipulatives that they can feel and move. Each day my students are learning a variety of subjects such as: math, language, reading, writing, social studies, and science. While learning this core curriculum, my students are needing life, hygiene, social, and behavioral skills. Please consider donating to the lives of these special learners.
The Best of Grades K–1 Picture Books Pack and Sports Talk, Scholastic News Nonfiction Readers: Grades 1 - 2 will help my students with their independent reading skills. My classroom library needs more variety with adapted learning levels. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind-to meet the different interests of my unique learners. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books and magazines that will allow them to read independently at their own level.
They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading.
