This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a Title I school in the first grade. Most of my students come from low socio-economic backgrounds. They all have different needs but are all extremely special and excited to learn. My students come into my classroom at all different reading abilities and at different levels.
My students have different personalities and all have multiple interests.
Reading is a fundamental part of education, especially at this foundational age. My students will need a variety of reading materials in order to excel.
My Project
I would like to be able to give each student in my room their own book bin with individualized books and reading materials in each bin to accommodate and advance their own reading needs, abilities, levels, and interests. These materials will help my students develop an interest in reading and help keep them engaged at all levels. It will also help them advance as an individual. They can keep books in their bins to read without anyone else knowing what level they are reading on. This will also assist me as a teacher and our reading specialist to know what students are reading to be able to individualize the students' reading and learning goals.
