My Students
Our school's mission is to empower each student with global awareness, academic knowledge, technical skills and the core values necessary for successful futures. I service roughly forty seconders who are passionate about learning and steadily cultivating literacy preferences through the exposure of different genres and series.
Incorporating more literacy materials in the classroom library always enhances student engagement while broadening their schema.
Students actively participate in a variety of whole-group, small group, and individualized activities related to a wide range of reading and writing experiences. Incorporating a wide variety of genres and types of books helps encourage student growth in background knowledge and foster interests amongst classmates. We serve students of all abilities ranging from special education, English as a second language and gifted and talented.
My Project
The addition of more books within our classroom library will allow student to delve more fully into the content area of different stories and build their background knowledge while pursuing areas of interest to them. We these resources to target skills like story elementary, plot, character analysis and themes. Allowing for more literacy resources will afford us the opportunity to make connections while we read and encourage students to develop a discovery of favorite authors, series and characters.
Our school's balanced literacy program focuses on guided reading, a focused reading group that is organized, structured, planned, and supported by the teacher.
