My students need a classroom library to challenge their reading ability and fluency.
What better feeling than watching a young child get excited to pick up a book and read? My students are begging for more reading time every day. They love getting lost in a book and sharing what they are reading with other students in the class.
We are a first grade classroom with a first year teacher, me!
These students are excited, passionate, and love to read! We have a "book nook" with beanbags and rocking chairs in which the students love to get lost in their books. I am constantly asking them to read more fluently and soak in more information.
I am always looking for another way to challenge my students and push them to do better than they did the day before. Unfortunately, our classroom library does not have enough books at these levels to always make this happen. With the requested books, my students will soar. They will have access to books and materials that they wouldn't otherwise. There is no greater gift than the gift of reading.
These donations could help my students "escape" into a world they may never get to experience.
Some of these students will never visit a zoo until they visit one in a book. They may never see a vacation until they get to go on one in a book. Some may never think they can until someone like Dr. Seuss tells them that in fact they can! Not only will these books help these students learn to read, but it will provide them a chance to expand their horizons.
