Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are bold and beautiful and born and raised in a community that is full of love and pride. Being freshman and sophomores in the school, they pride themselves in being leaders who want to support the younger students to grow into bright and strong ladies and gentlemen. They are bright, charismatic, and caring students.

While they are resilient, a lot of them have not been explicitly taught how to balance the rigor of academic life, mindfulness skills, and social justice.

The reality is many of them have experienced trauma that affects their ability to concentrate on their coursework. The transition to distance learning and now to in-person learning has been especially tolling on the students' (and teachers') minds and bodies, but we all want to make it work for the safety of our communities.

My Project

These books will bring such joy and life to our classroom. Right now, I have a limited number of books the students can choose from, and the books I do have are older and a little worn out.

It would be amazing if we can supply my classroom bookshelves with books that reflect the students' interests and identities!

The students deserve to be seen and reflected in the world around them. One of the best ways to do this is through literature. The books will be purchased in sets, so they can participate in mini-book clubs and meet often to discuss what they read. These reading groups will further enhance their reading experience.
