it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Thank you for stopping by!! My name is Mrs. Smith. Last year was my first year teaching First Grade and I fell in love with every aspect of it. I am teaching at a Title 1 school and couldn't be fonder of the character, love and respect my students had for our classroom and one another last year and I can't wait to meet my new group this upcoming school year.
My biggest shock starting last year was how behind my kiddos were in reading.
Almost all by students were almost below grade level at the start of the year; but we changed that! As a brand-new teacher, I can't chalk it up to my knowledge and skill set. Instead, I think it had to do with the fact each student fell in love with reading as the year progressed. The students raced to the school library during independent time and chose to read during times they were rewarded with a movie. One student who was flagged for potentially being retained after the first quarter ended up getting "in trouble" for sneaking a chapter book into technology class. That little boy was evidently promoted with flying colors to the second grade.
Now that I have digressed speaking about my kiddos I miss so much, I am here to ask for more grade level chapter books to inspire, motivate and advance reading in my classroom. Any donation to help create a diverse and entertaining classroom library will be so helpful in fostering the love of reading in my little first graders.
Having an interesting, fun book at their fingertips is more powerful than all the reading centers and manipulatives one could acquire. Thank you for your time!
