My Project

ALHS' law classroom is a vibrant hub of curiosity and exploration, but I need your support to take it to the next level.

One of the cornerstone resources in any classroom is its library, and ours is no exception.

Our current bookshelf, while well-loved, is overflowing. My classroom collection focuses on 3 specific genres: books that have been subject to bans, LGBTQ+ fiction and nonfiction, and legal resources. As our collection grows, so does the need for additional space to accommodate new books. Each book opens a door to a world of imagination, knowledge, and empathy, and I believe that every student deserves easy access to these treasures. By adding another bookshelf to our classroom, I can continue to add more books, including those in the languages of our English Language Learner populations, and ensure that our students have ample opportunities to explore diverse genres, cultures, and perspectives.

However, access to books is just the first step. I also recognize the importance of teaching my students responsibility and accountability through proper book care. Introducing library cards for each book empowers the students to take ownership of their reading journey. With these cards, they will learn to check out and return books, fostering a sense of pride and respect for shared resources. This not only instills good habits but also ensures that our precious books are well-maintained for future students to enjoy.

Furthermore, hands-on projects play a crucial role in reinforcing classroom learning and fostering creativity. From research projects to Supreme Court materials for deliberation, these activities encourage active engagement and critical thinking. However, my current supply of paper is dwindling. By replenishing our paper stock, I can continue to provide my students with the tools they need to bring their ideas to life and showcase their learning in meaningful ways.
