Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

When our school reopened in 2009, we were given various classic and popular titles of that time. Now over a decade later, I feel the need to breathe new life into our classroom library. Literature gives children the opportunity to become culturally aware of their peers and feel a connection to their culture.

Students need to see themselves and their friends in the spaces they inhabit.

Providing an environment that represents all kinds of kids will help validate my students' experiences as well as create empathy and understanding for those different than them.

Books are one way to make our classrooms more inclusive spaces for everyone. I am always trying to add new titles into our library to support this effort as children's literature has evolved so much in recent years to be more diverse in content. I also included a few new titles that reflect the diverse interests of my second grade readers.
