Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a first grade teacher in a very low income area. Most of my students do not speak English and many families do not own cars. My school is quite a distance from the public library, so therefore most of my students do not go to the library. I really need to motivate my students to learn to speak and read in English. A great way to achieve this goal is to have an interesting classroom library. Currently, we have a few books, most of which have been donated (second-hand)and some that I have purchased. In part one of the classroom library, Berenstain Bears, Clifford, and Arthur books were ordered. To have a better variety, I would also like to place an order for some Curious Books and Dr. Seuss books. This would make our library complete. If we had such a library I know the students would be driven to learn because they would love to read these books. I would like to purchase books for our classroom library. The 20 students in my class would read these books for approximately one hour a day while we work in small groups. The students would be so excited about reading if this great reading material was available to them.
