Help me give my students the ability to discover good books with engaging stories that help students flourish in their imaginations and creativity. My classroom library has always been one of my most influential tools as an educator.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I will service three classrooms full of fourth graders who are passionate about learning and steadily cultivating literacy preferences through the exposure of different genres and series. Incorporating a wide variety of genres and series of books helps to encourage student growth in background knowledge and foster interests amongst classmates. I look forward to diversifying their classroom library with diverse reads that will broaden their horizons. We serve students of all abilities ranging from special education, English as a second language, and gifted and talented.
My Project
I need to add more resources that will interest my future fourth grade students so that our classroom library can be a refuge for them that they will flock towards. I do have some interesting series for them like the “I survived” series and “ My Weird School” series. In the past I have always had a classroom librarian who has managed the organization of my classroom library for my students. As we gain more resources in our classroom library, we can develop an overnight checkout system. They have the opportunity to check out materials and take it home that way they are able to have access to books that help cultivate classroom and home connections. They are responsible for our classroom library and are able to encourage each other to try new series as they peruse the titles amongst their friends.
Getting my students hooked on a new series with familiar authors and characters will cultivate important skills like analyzing story elements, plot, character analysis, and themes that will service them as we begin to tackle more complex skill based objectives.
Our campus also utilizes Accelerated Reader to help encourage students to celebrate their reading progression throughout the year. Many have also used the same program to help them keep track of books that they have already read. Affording them at least twenty minutes a day reading independently gives them the opportunity to delve into literature deeper. Allowing for more literacy resources will help them make connections while they read and encourage students to develop a discovery of favorite authors, series, and characters.
