My students need some sturdy baskets to hold our books and a comfy rug to read them on! They love authors like Kevin Henkes, Tomie dePaola, and Jonathan London (of the Froggy books).
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school serves a community of hardworking families, the majority of which qualify for free breakfast and lunch. These families have recognized the value of being bilingual and have opted to enroll their children in a program where they will be immersed in another language.
We need things like baskets, storage bins and a rug to make our classroom look inviting for young readers .
Please help me achieve my goal to give our library a little make over and surprise students when they get back from winter break!
My Project
Second and third grade is when kids really develop a love for reading. As they are becoming more fluent readers, they are moving towards longer books and are discovering the types of books they like.
A well stocked and inviting classroom library will draw kids in and help them discover what kinds of books they like best.
It is really exciting to see kids develop their individual tastes in books and I can't wait to see them reading in a made over library complete with new baskets and a new rug. They will also love getting new books from a couple of our favorite authors.
