Classroom Library & Listening Stations: Special Needs

We need a book shelf for our reading area, headphones for listening center, and audio books for us all to listen to in the reading area.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Rogers's classroom raised $446

This project is fully funded

About My Students

Kenya, Chris, & Logan love our classroom and love to learn. Kenya, Chris, and Logan are leading the way and thinking of things we could use in class to make everything we do more engaging and interesting. They spend a lot of time wishing we had more resources to use in our classroom.

They spend a lot of time thinking about things that would make our room better and more suited to their needs. They have a reading area and wanted a bookshelf to store some of our books on for easier access. They also want to have access to grade level reading materials despite their reading deficits. To compensate, they want to be able to listen to stories like Harry Potter at the reading area with an audio book to feel more independent.

My students are all special needs students that need exposure to academic skills in numerous formats and ways in order to obtain mastery. This project will allow these students to work on academic and life skills. Students will foster independence by listening to audio books independently and will work on academic skills related to literature after listening. Despite having special needs that place them in a moderate to severe disabilities class, the state still requires them to learn and test on grade level standards involving things like main idea, figurative language, comparing written works to film adaptations, etc.. Students will work on social-emotional skills while at the literary center. They will often listen with a partner to a story on audio cd and/or will share the reading area with a peer. They will work with peer mentors in the reading area utilizing the bookshelf, headphones, and new audio books.

In Their Own Words

We want to have books to read available in the reading center and need a bookshelf to store them on. We also want to have new headphones for listening activities and while working on the iPads. We also want books to listen too on our own because we struggle with reading by ourselves.

We will use the materials to help other students in the room. We want to have better things for our class. We will help our teacher use the resources to create new activities for us to do and practice skills we need in the real world.

This project will provide our classroom with more materials and technology. We will have more access to books and reading than we currently have while working at the reading area.
