This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a classroom of loving and hardworking middle school ELs in the St. Louis area. They come from various ethnic backgrounds. Many of my students either immigrated to the United States as young children or are first generation U.S. citizens.

My Project

As of right now, I don't have a classroom library. My students are performing low particularly in reading and writing and they need to be exposed to literature that they can relate with. Many times my ELs are reading text that they do not have enough background knowledge on or literature they cannot identify with.

By donating to our project you will be helping my students have access to books that they can connect with.

Research shows that having a literacy-rich environment is the first step in developing literacy behaviors in a meaningful and authentic way. Having these books in our classroom will help nurture a love for reading.
