Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

This fall I will be a first year teacher at Jordan Elementary Community School in Chicago teaching first grade. Jordan students are 55% Hispanic and 44% African American, and 95% of the students are considered low-income. My goal is to get all of my students to not only be confident and proficient readers, but to love reading as well. As a new teacher I do not have the plethora of books I believe my students deserve to read, and I do not want that lack of choice of reading material to hinder their literacy development. I envision my students engaging in independent reading on a daily basis. I know my students will come to me at a variety of different reading levels and will have as many different interests. I hope to have books that will make my students fall in love with reading and learning. Therefore, I need a wide range of books that will allow my students to pursue their own interests while developing their reading skills! I hope you will help me in providing these eager first graders with a classroom library from ABC School Supply that they need and deserve!!
