My Students
As a public high school teacher in Hawaii, my students could not be more diverse. They range in age from fourteen to eighteen and come from a variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. I can look out at the students in my classroom and see a dozen or more different races, languages, cultures and ethnicities represented. We are a Title I school, so many of our students live below the poverty line and often, their parents struggle to make ends meet.
Because our population is so diverse, students thrive when school is infused with technology, art, music and hands on projects.
Many of our students struggle financially, so support from the community, school and organizations like DonorsChoose is imperative.
My Project
Help me give my students a classroom juggling set for fun brain breaks. Coming out of a hard year - full of distance learning and excessive screen time - kids will benefit from a fun and physical activity during open periods, recess, and after standardized tests.
Juggling isn't just fun, it teaches perseverance, patience, hand-eye coordination, and the importance of "picking yourself up when you fall."
I learned juggling as a kid and now enjoying sharing it with my students - three ball cascade, four ball fountain, and several fun variations and tricks. The juggling balls I requested will enable every student in my class to learn with a three ball beginner set. Thank you for supporting us!
