My students need iPads for certain applications that student computers don't provide. The iPad would also be used for interactive class lessons and differentiated independent student practice!
Our school is close to 90% poverty. Our school has Pre-K through 3rd grade, so we only have two STAAR testing grades on campus. With about 50 3rd graders of different skill levels (including Special Education, students with 504s, and those in the gifted and talented program).
Technology is a huge part of daily lives, especially for the younger generation.
My students respond positively to using the many lessons and activities available online now—programs they truly enjoy and ask to use—which fosters positive learning experiences.
Students need to be "tech-savvy" in today's world, and the best place to introduce it is in the classroom. Learning using technology allows teachers to keep students fully engaged, while showing them all the benefits of having access to technology as a way to learn.
My Project
This new generation relies on technology. These iPads will help them learn to use more technology as well as engage them in practicing the skills they have already learned from their teacher to support understanding. A few technology sites we use are I-station for reading, math, and writing, Front Row for reading and math, Xtramath (math facts), Study Island for all skills learned at school, Kahoot! for whole group learning, and Prodigy!
By using iPads instead of laptops or desktops, I am able to monitor what all students are doing by using a teacher app.
This allows me to lock them into an app until they finish an assignment or to kick them off of something they shouldn’t be doing at the time.
