My students need classroom instruments to help diversify their experience and get them more involved and excited about learning music through kinesthetic experience.

My Students

I am new to this district this year and am excited to work with all of my new students!

I teach about 140 students between Kindergarten and 6th grade who, for several years, did not have the opportunity for music classes.

So many of them are excited to have music back in their school, however, the music program was only re-started recently after several years of no music at all in the district.

All of the instruments that the district previously owned were sold, and we are left with a smattering of extremely old materials.

My Project

Since our music program is relatively new, our resources are extremely limited. Particularly for the older students, there is a lack of available materials for their general music classes.

Since they did not have music for a long time, the older students are in need a more active form of music education where they can move around.

The boom whackers will be primarily used for these older 5th and 6th grade students. We will be supplementing them with the "Whacked on Classics" and "Totally Tubular" books to put on a parent performance later this year. The boom whackers will help me to be able to implement more active learning activities in the music classroom.

The younger students love working with rhythm sticks and the few drums we have in class, however I would love to be able to use the tubano to supplement these activities. In addition, the "Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra" provides valuable posters and listening materials to help them understand the instruments of the orchestra.
