This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am working on positive behaviors this year by rewarding the students that are being good and following the rules. I am doing a reward system. Based on last year, the students have responded remarkably well with this! Since it was such a success, I want to implement it again! From my experience, the students responded really well with food. I always hear, "I'm hungry, do you have any food?" Which is why I am giving them ways to earn food.
I also work with special needs students, and food is a great motivator for them, especially those with ADHD.
With ADHD, it impacts a student's dopamine system. This means that when a student with ADHD consumes sugar, it can cause their levels to even out. Meaning, that they can actually focus better with these sugars. Which is why I put a lot of candy on here.
Also, I have noticed that I need more snacks that are more friendly for my students with diabetes. I had quite a few students this year who were diabetic, and it cost me a lot to make sure I had food for them. When their levels drop really fast, they need to raise it really fast. The most popular options were juice and fruit snacks. Which is why I have added it here! I want the kids to feel like they have everything they need in my classroom, regardless if they can afford it. My hope is that these items will be accessible for whenever they need it!
I also added some organizers so everything can stay in order. Organization is so important for students with disabilities! They need to be able to see their options. Having these clear organizers will help them so much in this process!
