Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are great kids who are often growing up in less than ideal circumstances.

They are a fabulous group of individuals that need help to ensure a wonderful elementary experience.

Many of the students come from broken homes and they witness violence in their streets. My school has many students living in poverty, a high level of students receive special education services, and English is not the first language of a large group of students. Too many days the students come to school not dressed in school uniforms that are warm enough. They wear the same short-sleeved shirt every day because they do not have long-sleeved shirts, sweaters, or sweatshirts to wear during the cold months. Fortunately, most students persevere through their hardships and are able to have an awesome school experience.

My Project

In our school community, we participate in PBIS - Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. At the classroom level, teachers encourage students and point out all the positive behaviors that students display each day. When they are caught in the act, students earn "hoots" (tickets), which they can later cash in their tickets at my classroom "store."

In 5th grade, our students want to be rewarded with things they like and enjoy, which include poppers and fidgets!

By students being recognized for their positive efforts and behaviors, they will want to continue to show them. By providing these incentives, it allows them to choose from items they enjoy. This will increase the likelihood of their positive behaviors continuing!
