Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students in my class are all ESOL certified. I serve as a homeroom and EIP teacher for my students. I try to come up with creative ways to teach them. I am challenged daily with creating lessons with differentiation to help my students master new concepts. Although I am challenged daily, my work is very rewarding. My students are eager learners and they love to explore new ideas and lessons.
In addition to my students ESOL background, they also come from a low socioeconomic community. My school is a true Title I school.
My students often come without basic supplies or needs. I try to provide as much as I can from my own pockets as well as available resources from my school and community. My students and I will appreciate anything that is given to us and we will definitely use it in our classroom.
My Project
I am requesting two items. My school is a Title I school. My students come from low income families and I often have to stretch my own wallet to cover items needed in my classroom. This year my class has been without a pencil sharpener. I had one that I inherited and it gave out at the end of last year. Not having a pencil sharpener has been an inconvenience for my classroom. I am constantly trying to borrow sharpeners from other teachers or find pre-sharpened pencils. We have a writing curriculum that requires students to write at least 40 minutes a day in addition to our normal writing needs. My students are always in need of a sharpened pencil.
My class is also in need of headphones.
I am required to provide my students with technology. I have received five Chromebooks for my class to use. I did not receive headphones. The Chromebooks are very loud and when I turn them down students can't hear them well. I have had trouble making a technology station, because of my fear of the noise. I want my students to be able to use Istation and to conduct research projects without distracting the rest of the class.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
