My students need 10 demonstration and experimental kits to learn about growing plants using hydroponic methods.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Chu's classroom raised $1,090

My Students
As time go by, farmland is diminishing in USA and the rest of the world due to natural and man-made disasters. We need to explore ways to grow food without soil to FEED USA and the world.
Most of my students are born and grew up in cities and know little about growing food or gardening.
They are attending a public middle school in a big city where there are no real big farms. 75% of the students are from low income families and qualify for free lunch program.
My Project
The demonstration and experimenting kits I requested will help students understanding the variables that affect the growth rate of plants and how hydroponic systems work. The water pump and tubing will allow students to design and build their own hydroponic systems. Students will compare food production using the hydroponic methods with the traditional method of using soil.
By learning and exploring growing food using the hydroponic methods, students will learn how food are grown and learn skills to grow food to feed themselves, their families and the rest of the world.
By participating in the process of growing food from seeding to harvesting, students will also learn to appreciate the food they consume daily. Students also learn engineering skills by designing and building their own hydroponic systems.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
