Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Shh!" "Turn the volume down!" "I can't concentrate!" These phrases are constant throughout my classroom. My students have access to some amazing programs (Lexia, ST math, Zearn, Scholastic News-just to name a few) that they can access on their iPads. However, since they are emerging readers, many of them rely on the program reading aloud to them to access the information. Therefore, I would love a class set of headphones so students can access these amazing programs without disrupting the learning of their peers.
I teach in a Chicago charter school where the vast majority of students live in a community with a high poverty rate.
Many families rely on free or reduced lunch and therefore do not have additional funds available to purchase headphones for their child.
My Project
My fantastic first graders are in desperate need of headphones. I work at a charter school that is devoted to personalized learning. Therefore, students have access to some amazing online learning programs that help to develop their literacy and math skills. These programs are designed to differentiate for each unique learner and adapt to meet their individual needs. We use these programs daily and the kids absolutely love them. However, many of my students rely on the program to read stories, deliver instructions or provide direct instruction aloud to them. Therefore, to ensure that they are able to access these classroom tools, without disrupting the learning of their peers, I am seeking a class set of headphones.
Technology is such an amazing tool and provides my students with access to materials and information that teaches, engages and inspires them daily.
However, when these programs are being used simultaneously among students in a small group, it can become distracting to those using the programs, as well as other learners. This will allow students to be focused on their task at hand and become more focused learners.
