My Students

I have a wonderful class this year! They are excited, hard workers who love to learn. Many of them have challenges in their life outside school, and they come to school as a place to be loved as well as a place to learn.

For my students, school is the place where they can learn that they CAN do things -- it's not too hard!

In first grade we learn that we CAN read long words, we CAN add big numbers, and we CAN stay here and learn. And we CAN be accepted for who we are.

My Project

We use IPads in our classrooms frequently. Each year I ask students to provide inexpensive earbuds or headphones to help them concentrate on their own learning (instead of hearing everyone elses IPad talking to them!). Some students are not able to bring headphones of their own, and others bring ones that break quickly or do not fit in their little ears. I want to provide headphones that they can use for learning programs like Imagine Learning, Reflex Math Facts, Prodigy Math, and others that really enhance their learning.

I also give my students book boxes each year.

They are allowed to use these book boxes to shop for choice books to read, to keep sight word lists and fluency passages in. Currently we are using cardboard, and they break, rip, and fall apart easily. We would like to get sturdy, reusabale boxes that will help us manage and enjoy our learning.
