It struck me mid-year, when we hit the mid-year slump, that I did not have any board games for my classroom. I actually had a kid ask me to buy a Candyland so they could remember what it was like to have fun.
I teach middle school, and we put so much pressure on them to do their best and take all the tests, they rarely get time to just be kids.
That's where my class comes in. I try really hard to offer them Fun Fridays when they have worked really hard, after testing, after performances, or when I can tell they just need a brain break. I think it is so easy to forget that while they are becoming young adults, they are still just kids. I created a list of board games they would enjoy with them and have pulled it all together here, along with some candy rewards for winners. All of the things we do in middle school land are so important, but it's also important that they get time to just be kids. The world puts so much pressure on growing up and getting things done, I don't want to contribute to that in my classroom.
