This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are a great bunch of fourth graders that are ready to learn. My students are considered ESOL learners as many of them are from various countries and speak various languages. Most of my students come from immigrant families, and many of them qualify for free or reduced-rate lunches.
The materials requested, chicken feed, feeder, and other animal habitat items will continue to support our classroom initiative of supporting the social-emotional needs of our students through the caring of animals.
As a teacher, my aim is also to teach life skills such as responsibility and empathy through the use of caring for pets. Our students are involved in feeding, cleaning, and engaging with the pets throughout their learning experience. Pets in the classroom have also been shown to reduce stress and anxiety in students. The students appear excited to arrive each day knowing that they will have an opportunity to engage with their classroom pets.
