I’m a teacher in a Title 1 Elementary school, and as imagined my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful experiences. I want them to wake up each morning with a smile on their face and a “pep” in their step knowing they are coming to school.
They love to read and love lots of positive attention.
Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way. I am hopeful that they will see how much “they are worth,” which is a lot in my eyes!
My Project
These supplies will give my students some additional supports in executive functioning and allow them to feel a sense of organization and accomplishment. They are need of some of these supports in my ESE classroom and I know these small changes will make HUGE impacts on their classroom performance! Some of the items will be used for personal space recognition, peer to peer communication and organization of materials. The wheeling carts will allow for mobile stations for those students who will require alternative seating and are unable to work best at desks. These items will make a great difference!
