My students need fun and interesting workbooks and worksheets to supplement their learning. My students also need desk organizers to keep their supplies organized.
As a relatively new teacher in the teaching profession, I am always finding ways to motivate my students to be interested in mathematics. I am constantly finding new solutions and encouraging students to explore other ways of solving problems.
My students are mathlethes in training and my goal for them this year is to not only have a strong understanding in their algebraic abilities but to find enjoyment in their discovery of various algebra concepts.
I teach a very diverse group of 7th and 8th graders with varying needs. Our school is located in a small town in California and about 50% of our students are English Language Learners and more than half of our students are on free or reduced lunch.
My Project
The resources that I am requesting are workbooks that not only can my students benefit from but these resources can be used to share within my department so that other students have access to them as well. These workbooks can be used as homework assignments or as support for students in the form of enrichment or as a supplemental aid for struggling students.
I am asking for workbooks such as the Key To... series which is a great series that really breaks down the concept to make it easily understandable by all students. I am also requesting resources such as the FACEing math workbooks which are workbooks that incorporate math and art.
Lastly, I am requesting 9 desk organizers to help students keep their materials organized. I am very big on cooperative learning so students sit in groups of 4 and oftentimes they share materials and textbooks and because some of the desks don't have a basket underneath it, materials are usually thrown all over the floor.
This project is important to me because it is extremely disheartening to see students who give up easily because they think they are incapable of doing math or quickly lose interest because the material is not presented to them in a manner that is accessible or engaging.
My hope with these worksheets is that they'll start to see the fun in problem solving and hopefully boost their self-confidence in their capabilities.
