I have the pleasure of having such an amazing and diverse group of students. My students have been placed in a self-contained classroom for students labeled as having multiple disabilities. My students have disabilities that range from intellectual to physical disabilities, to other health impairments.
Some of my students require intensive, individualized, and frequent instruction to allow them to be as functional and independent within the community.
Some skills that are of the utmost importance are communication skills (having their own communication system), basic math skills (like number recognition), and basic literacy skills (like identifying letters or their names).
Most importantly, despite disabilities and being in a low-income area, they are great students. They are crazy, fun-loving, determined, and bright young minds. They make my day interesting and not one single day is the same. That's the life of a special education classroom, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
My Project
Special education classrooms need a lot of things! We need things to keep the classroom sanitary.
In my classroom we go through baby wipes and Lysol wipes like no ones business!
Not to mention the need for gloves. We have to change our gloves between every student, every feeding, every change, etc. Keeping the classroom staff safe and healthy with these wipes and gloves are essential. Having extra baby wipes for the kiddos is super important, as running out is a definite possibility.
We also need classroom pointers, as we are finding that they work well to keep kiddos attention!
