Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have a classroom of 36 students who are full of life, who walk into class with a smile, and are ready to learn each day. Although more than 20% of my students have a specific learning disability, they are all hard workers who come from lower social economic backgrounds. Our daily schedule is packed with core academic subjects but we always find a little bit of time to explore both art and music.
I teach at a Title I school in Barrio Logan, San Diego where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast in the classroom and free lunch each day.
Thirty percent of those students at our school are homeless and live in homeless shelters around the neighborhood. Some students live in T.J, Mexico and they cross the border every morning with their family. All because each one of the students are eager to learn and get an education. Students here love school because they persevere to achieve success.
My Project
The items we have requested for are necessary and essential in our everyday needs. Please help ensure that our classroom has what we need to function safely, cleanly, and efficiently. We need a basic materials like pencils, an electric sharpener to be able to produce quality work. The blue painters tape and Clorox wipes will help keep us safe, kill the nasty germs and bacteria away. The bulletin board decorations will help create a lively learning environment. Last but not least, the teacher’s planner will help keep our lessons challenging and engaging. We really need these basic items to help us get a strong head start.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
