This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are an extremely motivated and hardworking group of kids. They are sixth graders in an urban school district. I teach reading, writing, and social studies at a dual-language school. These students are dedicated students and learners. They are an amazing group of kids.
They are critical thinkers in addition to being compassionate human beings and mature beyond their age.
They are eager readers, dedicated writers, and budding historians. They are truly a joy to work with every day! Hopefully, this project will bring them the same materials and supplies that are available to kids in other districts across the country.
I believe it is important for students to work together in order to get the most out of their education. My students have been making do with limited resources for projects, but could do exceptional work with more.
My Project
My students need classroom essentials. Other schools may take these things for granted, but I end up spending a lot of my own money on poster boards, clorox wipes, and tissues.
This year, my students have been especially interested in using post-it notes to record their thoughts while reading.
It is wonderful, but post-its are expensive! We are running out and it would be great to have a new supply before our literature circles project begins. This project will entail students running their own book clubs and recording their discussion questions and thoughts on post-its.
Lastly, students will love to use the brightly colored posters for projects
