Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Title I school in Sparks, Nevada. We serve a student population of approximately 650 students. 90% of our students are comprised of underrepresented populations and 100% of our students are identified as coming from low-income households, foster care, or students facing homelessness.
The SMS vision is that every golden bear believes in their POWER (Perseverance, Ownership, Work Ethic, Engagement, Respect).
Every day, my students come into class and ask for a pencil to write with. I could argue with them about being prepared, but in the end, all I want is for them to engage in learning which would not be possible without a writing tool. I would also like to provide my students with easily accessible headphones and computer mice (with hooks for easy storage) so that they can complete math homework and iReady practice with ease during our daily Bear Build Up time. We also need to be able to use colored pencils in our science labs to illustrate/label things. This class set of pencils can be put into the individual pencil pouches for ease of use by all the students. Finally, the office chair will be a great incentive for my students to perform well in class so that they get to use it as a reward.
