My classroom is filled with 23 bright third graders who come in each morning eager to learn.

We are a Targeted Title I school in Arizona. My students come from a wide variety of backgrounds and each has different learning needs and abilities. The one thing they all have in common, however, is that they are motivated by engaging and interactive technology and a flexible learning environment. By giving my classroom a much needed make-over, I can make it a better learning environment for all of my students. This will help me create a learning environment that fosters individual student growth as well as teamwork.

My Project

This classroom deconstruction will provide a new learning environment for my students and years of students to come. The traditional classroom with desks and chairs is appropriate for some students, but not the best choice for others. Some students need to sit, stand, lay, bounce, or wobble to be able to learn their best. Being in a comfortable environment is best for ALL learners, especially those with varied needs. The specific goal of my classroom make-over is to have ALL students attention during direct instruction by working in a flexible seating environment. When they are able to focus on the instruction, learning will occur more quickly and be taken to a deeper level of understanding. I'm so excited to be able to provide my students with choices. Having a flexible seating classroom means structured management on the teacher's part, but the work is worth the incredible outcome!
