My students need these items in order to maintain our classroom critter habitats. Items such as replacement bulbs are ongoing expenses and other items such as the timer/power strips will allow us to conserve energy.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a great school that takes part in several productive teacher/student support programs such as: Leader in Me(Covey Foundation), K-16 Stem Initiative, GEAR Up(Palomar College), and other 21st-century skill development opportunities.
We are a Title I school and are happy to have students from various backgrounds and neighborhoods.
We have high populations of ELLs and Special Needs students. We also have many students whose families are in the military (due to our location near Camp Pendleton). These students thrive on new and exciting experiences. We try to offer opportunity and a variety of meaningful experiences to support student growth.
My Project
Classroom critters promote curiosity, wonder and a sense of responsibility. The habitats have several on-going expenses and some safety items that we will need. The materials we have requested will provide basic upkeep and ongoing maintenance for our class critters. The lighting needed includes Night heat Lights(ExoTerra Night-Glo Moonlight A19 Lamp, 75-Watt (4 Pack), Daytime Basking lamps(Zoo Med Basking Spot Lamps 100 Watt - 6 Total Bulbs (3 Packs with 2 per Pack), and UVB spectrum daylights (Reptispa Desert Terrarium 10.0 UVB 26 Watts Compact Fluorescent Lamp) for reptiles maintain proper health. The Timers/surge protectors (Zilla Reptile Habitat Lighting & Terrarium Heat Power Centers) are designed to keep the lights on/off at the correct times(day and night) while also providing safety for two of the habitats. The hide(Zilla Reptile Habitat Décor Shale Rock Den, Medium) and the substrate(Zilla Snake and Lizard Litter, Aspen, 8 qt) are for the Bearded dragon. We have a Bearded Dragon, Ball Python, and two Toads. Keeping the critters happy and healthy requires supplies that a teacher cannot always provide. We will also be demonstrating sustainability with the Back to the Roots Organic Mushroom Farm and pruning our plants with the Fiskars All Steel Bypass Pruning Shears/TGK Pruning Shears Garden Bypass Hand Pruner. The Reptile Heat Bulb - 60W Ceramic Heat Emitter No Harm No Light Infrared Heater Lamp for Aquarium Snake Pet Brooder 110V, White is for the Python's warm environment.
The classroom critters play an important role in developing the student curiosity, responsibility and natural ability to care for live creatures.
The critters are a big part of our classroom environment and provide an atmosphere that should be a part of science classrooms. Many students gain an understanding of compassion and others find pleasure in having jobs or responsibilities.
