Students have experienced the loss of their "normal" school experience. They have rallied the best they could to learn at home.
What my students need now is a lot of empathy and compassion!
As we anticipate school opening (possibly in a modified format) my class will have many opportunities for students to learn about, give, and receive compassion and empathy.
My Project
Books that model compassion and empathy will help our students begin next year feeling empowered to care for each other. Whether online, or in the classroom, or in some modified blend of both, these books will be key in opening up the discussion of learning how to share kindness even when it's hard.
Giving students these stories allows them to draw out their own positive character and build in themselves traits of resilience.
And that is the key goal of building successful adults, no matter what the circumstances!
When students do reenter the classroom they will find a few cuddly friends to help them through the tough moments and some flow rings that offer a calm moment to focus and move before getting back to the business of learning.
