Classroom Chairs for Teens

My Project

My Students are special education students with High-Functioning Autism. They are brilliant in unique ways & always keep me on my toes. I love working with my crew and smile every day because of them. Each student has their way of learning so I have to teach and investigate to find what works best for each one. My students are each unique and amazing. I work with a group of high school students with High-Functioning Autism, but I also get to enjoy teaching students with ADHD, Emotional/Behavioral Needs, Learning Disabilities, Cognitive Delays, Traumatic Brain Injuries, and Physical Impairments.

My Project

Years ago, I inherited some old office chairs that were dumpster bound had I not snatched them up. They are office chairs that had the backrests broken off of them. I thought they might help my students with their sensory needs. These chairs were a dream come true. I saw big changes in behavior & focus. Students were no longer tipping back or falling off their chairs. In an office chair, students can swivel, roll & adjust the height to best suit them. Students no longer twist off the backs of hard chairs while trying to stretch or startle the class by tipping too far back and falling. The problem I have now is that these good ole chairs are breaking. The wheels have started falling off & the height adjustment levers are breaking off. The custodians keep trying to save them for us, but I'm afraid their days are limited.

What I'm asking for is a donation of office chairs for my students. They will be ecstatic if we get a new classroom set.
