Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember the first grade? It's a great time to learn through play and experiences! My school recently became a STEM school. Students in our school come from all types of backgrounds, mainly Hispanic and African American.
We need a new carpet to sit on while we hear stories, while we play math games, to read books to ourselves and so many more times in the day!
A classroom carpet would make learning more enjoyable for all my students!
My students have a love and passion for learning. They come to school every day charged up and ready to tackle new challenges. I am amazed by the way they think outside the box to solve problems and by their energy!
The majority of the students at my school are English Learners with Spanish being the primary language spoken at home. Over 85% of students also qualify for free lunch. We are a Title I school as well. None of these things hold us back, they just make us shine even brighter!
My Project
The classroom carpet is a common meeting place for students and the teacher. Concepts are introduced and practiced. Stories are heard. Thinking takes place. We can gather around something new and explore it together. It's that one special place where everyone feels welcome and everyone knows that something new and exciting is about to take place! The carpet is a home inside a classroom, fostering learning and creativity.
The students in my classroom will have the opportunity to have a place where they can all comfortably come together for our special time during the day, learn, collaborate and grow.
Community is so critical in developing confident, capable learners. By having a classroom carpet, the students will have a chance to get out of their chairs and come together to learn up close and personal!
