This is my first year of teaching and I have the task of making an empty classroom feel like a warm, safe space for students. I work at a Title I school in Portland that has a very diverse population of students. The majority of my students are English Language Learners and need extra support in the classroom.
To help support my students this school year, I would love a calm down space that meets their needs and provides tools for self regulation.
During the school day, many students become overwhelmed, overstimulated, and stressed out. Because of this, it is crucial to provide them with tools to take a break and reset.
Your support in this project would create a safe space for many students for years to come. Please help me give my students a rug, pillows and sensory tools for this calm down space. Thank you in advance.
