Classroom Calm Corners

My Project

In order to support Social Emotional Learning, each classroom will develop a Calm Corner where there will be tools for students to learn how to self-regulate in order to calmly return to the whole class to engage in learning. Teachers will teach into strategies such as emotion recognition charts, breathing techniques, manipulatives to relieve stress and anxiety, journaling and drawing exercises in order for students to build their own personal toolkit for self-regulation. This Calm Corner will tie in to a school-wide Social Emotional curriculum that allows children to acquire and apply skills to develop healthy identities, manage emotions, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions.
