Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I have the most wonderful kindergarten students from so many different backgrounds. School is how we get to know people different from our families, and having books that reflect our community is crucial.
These picture books delve into tricky topics like refugees, families, and traditions.
We love to learn during story time, about handling feelings and conflict, about how people celebrate, and how families work together.
Many of my students have struggled with social-emotional stuff this year since they missed out on preschool and other early socialization. Books are one of our best ways to help them learn about norms like sharing and kindness, to help them bounce back from COVID-19 traumas.
