Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The purpose of this project is to engage my amazing fifth-grade students in a hands-on learning experience that combines math skills with real-world applications through our classroom Bodega. This initiative aims to cultivate their curiosity and excitement for learning by allowing them to earn and manage “school dollars” as they practice essential financial literacy skills.

To support this, we will provide folders, bags, and paper to help students keep their finances organized.

Each student will have their own folder to track their earnings and expenses, creating a system that fosters accountability and responsibility. The school dollars they earn through hard work and effort in class will empower them to make choices about how they spend their money.

Additionally, we will create a vibrant store-like environment stocked with snacks and storage containers. Students will have the opportunity to shop for snacks using their hard-earned school dollars, reinforcing concepts such as budgeting, saving, and decision-making in a fun and interactive way. This experience not only motivates them to engage with math in a practical context but also builds a sense of community as they learn to work together and support one another in achieving their goals.

Overall, this project is designed to make learning math an exciting adventure, providing my students with valuable skills that extend beyond the classroom.
