My students are from all over the area and reflect the diverse culture of St. Louis. They are brought together by their intellectual gifts and commitment to academic achievement at an inner-city school boasting a top ranking in Missouri public schools.
Our International Baccalaureate school serves a high poverty community, but boasts a 100% graduation rate, acceptance to prestigious universities and programs, and a top ranking among all public schools in our state.
That success is due to the impressive commitment of both faculty and community. Students at this high poverty school understand the difference an excellent education will make in their lives and the dedication it will take to earn it.
My students graduate prepared to succeed in an ever-changing world because we work in a school encouraging curiosity, collaboration, and compassion. That said, we also face challenges of socioeconomic status: we are a high poverty school with limited resources.
My Project
These supplies will help us use fun and effective Kagan cooperative learning activities in class. With these materials, we can easily and quickly share ideas, quiz each other, confirm understanding, and more!
Have you ever taken a class that was all about sitting still, staying quiet, and working alone?
Did you get as much from it as you could have? We all learn better when given opportunities to collaborate and cooperate with others (and it's more fun, too!).
Our wish list might look basic, but we need these items to thrive! The dry erase markers and erasers will let us record and publish our big ideas. New pens will help us mark our readings and respond to our peers' writing on our college-ruled looseleaf paper. Last but not least, we need some cough drops to soothe our throats when allergy, cold, and flu season hit!
With these materials, I can use some awesome research-based strategies to help all of my students learn and retain more. Studies show correlations between these activities and long-term gains in students' academic and social success. Help me improve all of my classes with the items I need to use these effective activities!
