Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember the first grade? It's a great time to learn through play and experiences! My school recently became a STEM school. Students in our school come from all types of backgrounds, mainly Hispanic and African American.
My students have a love and passion for learning, they come to school every day charged up and ready to tackle new challenges.
I am amazed by the way they think outside the box to solve problems and by their energy!
The majority of the students at my school are English learners with Spanish being the primary language spoken at home. Over 85% of students also qualify for free lunch. We are a Title I school as well. None of these things hold us back, they just make us shine even brighter!
My Project
This project is part two of my classroom basics wishlist! I need headphones, dry erase boards and cardstock. These items are so versatile. We use each thing throughout the day, multiple times!
We use the headphones for reading and math intervention lessons, dry erase boards for phonics and math, and the cardstock for art supplies and for the teacher to print learning games on!
This project is my heart. We use dry erase boards for both reading and math daily. Only, we don’t have dry boards! Right now we use laminated paper that came with our mat kit over 15 years ago. The “boards” no longer come clean. They really need to be replaced with somethings sturdy and durable. These boards in this project are rugged, and lined! This will help with handwriting, which we so desperately need.
The cardstock will be used for art crafts in the class, and also to create learning games. This is a true investment!
Most importantly we have a class set of strong, flexible, headphones! These will give us what we need to complete our individualized math and reading lessons. The students are without proper headphones for our lessons right now. I would love to be able to provide those to me students.
