Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach second and third grade in a high-risk district, where resources are very limited. Yet these students come to school every day ready to work and eager to learn! Our staff strives to build active citizens of good character who actively participate in their community - whether that is the school community, our local community, or our world.
Our school is located in a low-income neighborhood, and many of my students do not have the resources at home necessary to enhance their learning.
They look forward to the new and exciting materials and experiences our school is striving to offer.
My Project
Students need access to a multitude of supplies in order to be successful learners. Since the start of the school year, students in my classroom have approached me needing notebooks, folders, pencils and erasers. I always try to share what I can, but some of the supplies are running low and we are only at midyear.
Students in our school need many more resources to be successful as we strive to address their individual reading and writing needs.
This year, we have started a new reading program, so each student needs multiple notebooks and folders for ELA. Furthermore, students need access to project based learning materials to make learning fun, and organizational tools such as binders and folders to be able to keep up with the rigor of third grade. Pencils, folders, erasers, marker, etc. all help students to always be prepared and also allow for showing what they have learned in creative ways.
The card stock and laminating materials will be used to create hands-on learning centers that will make learning more engaging.
School is a time for growth and every little bit makes it easier to move one step closer to extraordinary.
