This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Creating a classroom that is welcoming and comfortable for students is a major priority. My students are full of joy and curiosity. For many, Kindergarten is their first school experience. As their teacher, I want my students to love school and learning. Students come to school eager to discover new things and to explore the world around them. Our elementary school is located on the southwest side of Chicago. These spirited students come from low-income households with minimal experience with the world outside of their small community. My kindergarten students are very creative, fun-loving children.

My goal is for students to be excited to come to school every day and to be consistently and actively engaged.

My kindergarten students strive for independence! I teach my students to become innovative learners. It is important for me to help my students transport themselves into a world that allows their creativity and knowledge to come to life. I believe in my students, and I know they will be making a difference in the world. My students deserve the best learning atmosphere and tools to support their learning.

My Project

Although we still don't know when we will return to school in person, I want to do everything possible to properly prepare my classroom for when we do. Well-circulated and sanitized air would help keep my students healthy. While opening the windows is an option at least in the warm weather, that can also cause problems for students with allergies, asthma, and other respiratory issues.

It is going to be important now, more than ever, that the classroom be clean and sanitized, and having an air purifier would make a huge difference.

The air purifier that I am requesting captures not only dust and mold but also allergens and viruses. It is large enough that, at the highest setting, it would replace the air in my classroom five times each hour. Having this air purifier would make the environment healthier for all students upon returning to school.
