My students need 32 flash drives so they can save their work, 30 copies of "The Odyssey" for a class set, and other interesting books like "The Enemy," "Champion," "the Fear" and more for their library.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Sometimes we take for granted our access to technology and small things like being able to carry our files with us on a thumb drive. Technology and reading can impact my students' lives.
My students are 9th graders in a Brooklyn High School.
We receive Title 1 funding, which means most of our students qualify for free/reduced fee lunch. Many of them do not own a flash drive or have reliable access to technology. They are in need of new books, especially a combination of classics and popular young adult fiction.
My Project
My students need to increase their literacy by reading a classic (The Odyssey) and high interest books and series. They also need flash drives to save work on, like essays and PowerPoint presentations. This access to more reading materials and technology will help them become college/career ready.
Our goal is to provide high school students with opportunities to be college/career ready.
By helping them read classics and let them read interesting books, we are improving their literacy. By giving them access to more technology, we are preparing them for the real world.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
