Classic Literature for High School Library

Help me give my students classic literature, such as Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, Mark Twain, and others.

My Students

I teach at an early college high school. 26% of our students are economically disadvantaged. Most of our students travel between 10 and up to 30 miles on public transportation to attend our school. The geographic area our school covers is over 2100 square miles. Over 90% of our students earn their high school diploma at the same time they earn their associate degree from Utah Valley University.

My Project

This project will introduce classic literature to our school library. Most of the canon we have currently is contemporary literature. This selection will expose students to literature that has stood the test of time.

Many students crave more complex writing than they get in young adult literature.

When I asked for suggestions of books to add to the library, several of these authors and titles were requested by my students.

As we are a small charter school, our library is a continual work in progress. Students will be able to check the books out to read at home. The increased complexity will foster a higher level of literacy.
