Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a Special Education teacher in a 12:1:1 standardized classroom. I have been lucky enough to have met wonderful children. My students are eager to learn, they feel proud when they hear that they are doing a good job. Reading is crucial for the growth of all students. It strengthens their cognitive development, their academic performance, and overall well-being. Having a library in the class will help me assist my students in reaching these goals.

All of the materials and storage that I have selected will ensure that my students receive a library that is designed and tailored to their needs.

The students will have books that are easily accessible and labeled, this will help them become more independent when selecting books. In addition, there will be wider selections of books in different levels, to tailor the needs of all my students in the class. The class is composed of students that have different reading levels and right now the books are limited for the lower reading levels. In addition, I want to be able to lend my students books when they go home. I believe that consistency is key and reading at home is crucial.

My students are motivated and reading has become a crucial part of their academic success. Having a library has many benefits like it increases reading, exposure to diverse texts, improved reading skills, curriculum support, a quiet space, and socialization skill building by sharing opinions. One of my most precious memories is seeing one of my students choosing to read during recess; however, he could not read the book. One of his friends saw this, and decided to sit next to him and read to him. I want to make sure that all my students have books that they like and that they can read.
